Screen-readable text to accompany my typewriter journal entries

22 June 2025
It is SO HOT!! I’ve brought typewriter and myself and all my writing stuff into the garden in the hope of cooling down a bit but as it was 41.7 degrees in the sun by 9.30 this morning I’m not sure how successful it will be!
My Luna-familiar is watching me from her favourite spot on the decking in the shade and my Clovie-familiar who is much fluffier is refusing to set paw outdoors today. Weather for flopping!
But also good for the soul after such a long winter. Unexpected illness squashed my plans to meet a friend today and possibly go swimming in the lido, but a slow quiet garden day feels like a reasonable alternative way to spend my Sunday.
There is a wild sweet pea climbing my fence and also trying to grow across the patio, a huge hagstone as a paperweight on the table, colour everywhere from all the plants in bloom, and a much needed breeze. Well, more like occasional gusts of determined wind trying to steal things!
My accuracy is not fabulous today – always realise on a typewriter how much I rely on backspaces and being able to correct my typos at speed on a screen!

But there is definitely something vital and very immediate and physical about a typewriter, and as the world gets more and more automated, and a glorified autocorrect is pushed into every nook and cranny of our online lives, I felt very pulled to my chunky, noisy, manual typewriters.
Although I am suddenly very aware of the oops, smell of bbq from a neighbouring garden and also that while I love the clicky sound they may not!
Hoping with more practice my accurace at speed will improve – practice makes perfect, right?
Right, time to find the sprinkler or a spray bottle and cool down a bit!
